Video: Top 5 Bicycle Trails in Toronto

There’s a sense of freedom that comes with cycling that you can’t find with any other form of transportation. I still remember when I first learned to ride a bicycle. I felt like I could go ANYWHERE! Except at that age, I stayed within a one-block radius of my house.

Our winter months in Toronto can make cycling difficult. But once the weather warms up, one of my favourite things to do is explore the city by bicycle. Truthfully, I’m not much of a city cycling kind of girl. While the city is working on making the streets more bike-friendly, I have fears of being swiped by a passing car or doored from a parked one. Instead, I prefer to use Toronto’s bicycle trails. And thankfully, there are so many of them!

Over the past few years, I’ve been exploring Toronto’s bicycle network. It’s led me to some interesting areas of the city, some of which make me forget I’m even in the city.

This month also marks Bike Month in the Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton Area. What started as a single bike-to-work-day in Toronto back in 1989, has evolved into a month-long event to promote cycling. Every year the event gets bigger and bigger and I love how more people are opting to go two-wheeled.

So, from trails that run alongside rivers and train tracks to ones that span the width of the city and beyond, I thought it was time to put together a quick video highlighting the top 5 bicycle trails in Toronto!

Don’t have a bicycle or visiting the city? No problem!

  1. Great suggestions! I’m also afraid to ride in traffic but I didn’t realize that there were so many great trails in the city of Toronto!
